What is pediatric feeding therapy?
Pediatric feeding therapy supports children who face challenges during mealtimes. These challenges may stem from sensory sensitivities, oral-motor delays, or anxiety related to food. Children may struggle with textures, tastes, smells, or even the appearance of certain foods.
Pediatric feeding therapists specializing in feeding assess and treat a wide range of concerns, including:
-
Difficulty chewing
-
Gagging or food refusal
-
Picky eating and limited diets
-
Discomfort or distress around food

How can therapy help my child?
Feeding therapy is tailored to each child’s unique needs and may include:
-
Strengthening oral motor skills like lip, tongue, and jaw coordination
-
Supporting sensory regulation to help children explore new foods
-
Reducing mealtime stress and anxiety for both the child and family
-
Teaching families strategies to create calm, consistent mealtime routines
The Goal
The goal of pediatric feeding therapy is to help children become more confident, independent eaters. Therapy focuses on building a positive relationship with food while supporting healthy growth and development in a safe, enjoyable way.
The Process
1
Initial Consultation
At Little Bites, we offer free 15-20 minute consultations to see if we are the right fit.
2
Evaluation
An initial evaluation involves assessing a child's medical history, current developmental level, feeding habits and behaviors, then creating a therapy plan. This typically lasts 60-90 minutes long.
3
Treatment
Treatment sessions will focus on addressing the underlying skills needed to be successful at mealtimes, as well as expanding food in a fun and safe way. Treatment sessions are typically 45-60 minutes long.
